*. Days Between Stations .*

Album: In Extremis (2013)
Genre: Prog Rock (Symphonic/Eclectic/Exp.)  /  USA

Finally, the follow up to their great self titled debut album from 2008! A very impressive follow up I might add, opening with "No Cause For Alarm" an orchestral overture with the Angel City Orchestra, Oscar Fuentes Bills: Keyboards & Sepand Samzadeh: Guitars (the core of Days Between Station) supported by famous guest´s musicians: Tony Levin on bass, Billy Sherwood on drums..plus a few surprise guests. This opener has all the qualities of a cinematic soundtrack, both composition and delivery wise...wonderful!! There are always talk of the so called problematic second album, you know, how to surpass the famous debut album!? Well in this case no problem at all, these fine musicians most certainly reach the high quality of their debut and then some!! Actually I think that this album is a notch better!! It is more coherent and more.....how shall I put it... more streamlined and powerful!! There are so many great tunes on this album but my fav track are in no particular order: "The Man Who Died Two Times" with excellent lead vocals from Colin Moulding (XTC) !, "Visionary" brilliant guitar work from Sepand and great vocal & drumming from Billy Sherwood!, "Eggshell Man" with the tour de force musicians: The Days Between Station "twins" with Peter Banks, Tony Levin, Billy Sherwood, Rick Wakeman, Ali Nouri ..WOW what a line up and what a tune !! The Epic title song " In Extremis" wonderful stuff, world class prog music with the addition of Orchestra, a trumpet solo and would you believe a Barber shop harmony quartet ?!! Yes I kid you not and I works, big time!! This is a MUST OWN, for every serious prog collector!! So what are you waiting for? Go get it NOW!! Review by "Tonny Larsen" (www.progplanet.com).

RATING:  8.75 / 10   **FANTASTIC**
