*. Brainbox .* (Remaster 2012 + Bonus)

Album: Parts (1972)(Remaster 2012 + 4 Bonus)
Genre: Prog Rock (Proto Prog/Psych./Blues)  /  Holland

By the time Brainbox recorded their second album, three years after their first, the band had completly changed personal from the line-up that recorded their frst. There are a couple of other bands that comes to mind that were like this later in their history (Renaissance and The Electric Prunes) I think that like Renaissance, there was one member who came in later, before the rest of the original members left, who was able to carry on with the name (Dunford in Rennaissance, and drummer Frans Smit here). The band sounds like they were trying to figure out what kind of band they wanted to be when they recorded this album. They cover everything from straight progressive rock (in a style similar to Focus), to country rock, to a clasically-inspired solo piano piece, to heavy blues rock, to a drum solo piece. All-in-all, it really doesn't flow too well, but it's still not bad by any means, and there are plenty of really good moments here. I would certainly recommend it to the curious.
