The British in the late 60's and early 70's were embracing the American jazz tradition far more than the Americans, as a result there were many fine jazz and fusion bands to come out of Great Britain at the time. Keith Tippett's group is certainly no exception to this rule. Tippett (as well as some of the horn players on this album) are best remembered for showing up on early King Crimson albums (In The Wake Of Poseidon, Lizard and Islands). Their debut is a fine album including such beautiful tracks such as "This Evening Was Like Last Year" and fun horn workouts such as "Thank You For A Smile" (a short piece based around the coda of "Hey Jude"), "I Wish There Was A Nowhere" and "Stately Dance For Miss Primm". Highly recommended for anyone who is a fan of jazz, fusion or British progressive rock from the early 70's. Review by "tagomago" (Rate Your Music).
