CRAYON PHASE is a progressive rock band from the ruhr area and moving musically somewhere between Neo Prog and New Art Rock, between bombast and 13/8 and between rock out and easy listening. The music reflects a wide range of sounds and atmospheres: sometimes melodic and playful, then back to hard rock, sometimes epic, sometimes dynamic, often complex and tricky, but also straightforward and intuitive. CRAYON PHASE has just completed their debut album “Within my Recollection” on 2012, publishing it in February 2013. All songs are joined into a concept album of about 70 minutes dealing with different experiences of a person and his human weaknesses, desires and wishes. The band’s influences are based on classical and modern prog bands from Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd over Marillion, Saga, Rush, up to Spock’s Beard, Porcupine Tree and Subsignal. Basically they want to part from the paragons, to sound less retro with more modern sounds by creating their own interpretation of the various elements of progressive rock and to recognize an own handwriting. Therefore on the album are short 3-minute songs as well as 16-minute epics. All band members have many years of musical experience in numerous bands and projects and therefore are able to present their complex music both in studio and on stage.
