*. John Lees' Barclay James Harvest .*

Album: North (2013)
Genre: Prog Rock (Pop/Rock)  /  UK

The rather long band title reveals the split (due to musical differences and court case) of the original BJH, dividing them into 2 unit´s which holds the name Barclay James Harvest, this is (obviously) guitarist & vocal John Lees´ outfit! The music here are very close to that of the original band and it must be said that there are quite a few ear -hangers here, as in pop songs that stick to your mind after a few spins! To be honest I didn't think much of this album in the beginning, but after quite a few spins it grew on me, now I quite like it and as mentioned these ear hangers keep coming back to me. Always a good thing in my book when the music you hear grows and forms its own life in your mind. For those of you who doesn't know of JBH (can there really be some?!) this bands music in all its disguises is usually very soft "spoken" so don't expect thundering guitar chords og screaming guitars/vocals etc. !! This is soft prog (at best) but more like pop with well educated musicians! Friends of the band will already know and own their albums, newcomers ..if you liked what you just read, then give this album a chance why don't you?!! Review by "Tonny Larsen" (www.progplanet.com).

RATING:  7 / 10
