*. Dark Ages .*

Album: Teumman Part Two (2013)
Genre: Prog Metal (Prog Rock)  /  Italy

Way back in 1982, a very young guitar player by the name of Simone Calciolari decided to form a band to play the music of his rock heroes. The green age of the members prevented the combo from being a stable line-up until summer '86; at that time the band enrolled the players, between them singer Guia Roncaia, who in april 1991 gave birth to the first album, called "Saturnalia". Then of the original Dark Ages only the two guitar players remain, Calciolari and Eugenio Roncaia, and their firm intention was not to waste all the work done. So they began the hunt for new people who believed in the band and in its projects. And so, in the beginning of 1996 new singer Davide Maria Cagnata was enrolled, the line-up showed some stability and new compositions with prog influences were penned down. But again, trouble was lurking: in 2003 Roncaia, worn out by personal problems, decided to take a rest and left the band planning to come back when things could be sorted out. In the summer of 2008 Calciolari and Cagnata met Angela Busato, a well-known keyboard player with other bands, and a rehearsal was agreed. She came with her brother Carlo, a very young but seasoned drummer and at once the old sound blended smoothly with the new. Now only a part of the picture was missing: Marco Gennari, a multi-talented musician was called aboard to play bass guitar, and so the recording of a new album was undertaken. And so in may 2011 a new chapter in the story of Dark Ages sees the light: "Teumman - part one", is a concept album which tells a story of war, love and death set in a distant past. On october 2013 Massimiliano “Missi” Perboni replaces Marco Gennari on bass and the band enters recording studio for the opera's final part due to be released on august 2013. TEUMMAN ROCK OPERA - Teumman is a concept album stemming from classic rock opera tradition set in a long distant past, in the ancient Assyrian empire. Teumman is an elamite prince who is killed in battle. In the night, while scavengers roam the battlefield, a demon, Oriax, takes his body down in the afterworld to meet Berkaal, Master of the Darkness, who proposes an oath: if he’ll succeed in seducing Assyrian Queen Namrad, he’ll be rewarded with eternal life. Compared to well-known rock operas, in Teumman you will find more action, theatre, dialogues, deeply defined characters, and a clash of values with an outcoming that will only reveal itself in the end, with a strong nineteen century Italian opera taste. Dark Ages sound, deeply rooted in progressive rock, has multicolored nuances ranging from metal to classical music to provide background to a wide palette of scenes, situations and feelings.
