*. Senni Eskelinen & Stringpurée Band .*

Album: Senni Eskelinen Stringpurée Band (2008)
Genre: Prog Rock (Eclectic/Jazz/Exp./Folk)  /  Finland

A very interesting piece of work here! The electric kantele (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kantele) of Senni Eskelinen is nice, clear and vivid accompanied greatly with a strong bass and inventive drumming with nice thick sounds. I agree with Crimso's review that this is a truly wonderful debut! The music varies from exiting Tim Burtonesque saw howling to jazzy Finnish folk and at it's best (when speeding up) this band almost reaches the heights of Syrinx - they actually do sound like Syrinx here and there, especially on "Nightmare" where Senni's kantele can be compared to David Maurin's acoustic guitar based with Samuel Maurin like bass and Philippe Maullet like drums!!! Here's them myspace to take a peak: http://www.myspace.com/stringpureeband - The slower parts..., well I'm a bit worried about their compositions, they seem not to be clever enough to reach the heights of Syrinx and there's a chance it gets boring. It's always the danger when making instrumental music like this - compositions are everything!
