*. Sagittarian .*

Album: Sagittarian (1984)
Genre: Prog Rock (Neo/Symphonic Prog)  /  Japan

A fine and obscure slice of symphonic prog coming from Japan from 1984. The only one album released by Sagittarian was quite a pleasent ride for me. These japanese had balls when they offer this kind of music in 1984 when with some exceptions the prog movement was in underground. This is symphonic prog with traces of neo here and there, well played but suffers in originality, little cold with tipycal plastic sound , but it was typical for that era btw. Mainly instrumental with some vocal parts sporadicaly integrated in the music, totaly unintresting to my ears the voice. The album overall is not bad, there are some very nice pieces that show potential like opening track or the best tune from the album Rain-Carnation. Good keyboard driven prog with some guitars here and there make from this album an enjoyble listning, at least for me. Nothing is groundbreaking or inovative here but ok most of the time, keeping in mind that this album was released in dark days of prog, 1984 is maybe the worst year in prog in last 45 years of prog music. I will give 3 stars for this obscure album, similar with Zaragon from denmark or The Foundation from Sweden. Review by "b_olariu" (Prog Archives).
