*. Edward Bear .* (Reissue 2012)

Album: Eclipse (1970)(Reissue 2012)
Genre: Soft Prog Rock (Blues/Pop/Rock/Psych.)  /  Canada

I saw Edward Bear in concert purely by chance in the summer of 1970 and I was so impressed that I went out and bought this LP the next day. This album pre-dates most of their pop material and offers a suprising amount of blues based rock. The group consisted of Larry Evoy on lead vocals and drums, Paul Weldon on keyboards and bass (just like the Doors) and Danny Marks on guitar and vocals. I wore this album out over the years and was glad to hear that it had been released by EMI on CD in 2003. It's probably not everyone's cup of tea as you either like or hate Larry Evoys vocals but Danny Marks slings a mean guitar and it's worth purchasing just for his great fretwork on "Monday". Edward Bear of course topped the pop charts with "Last Song" in the mid 70's with a different band line up but I would think that few fans know what a great band they initially were. This is well worth buying and is a great artifact of Canadian rock music. Review by "BC Beatle" (www.amazon.com).
