*. En Declin .*

Album: Trama (2006)
Genre: Prog Rock (Crossover/Alternative/Metal)  /  Italy

Given one word to describe EN DECLIN’s newest album, “Trama,” the choice would be melancholy. Or somber. Or moody. Alright then, three words. The untitled intro track sets the vibe for the solemn near-hour to follow. There is no high energy, electric guitar, double bass beginning when “Until Bleeding” kicks in; simply acoustic guitars, tame drums and the saddened vocalist, who becomes eerily familiar to TOOL’s Maynard James Keenan by the album's middle. Mixtures of TOOL, OPETH’s softer side and ALICE IN CHAINS all blend with EN DECLIN’s original aspects to create a satisfying product for this genre. By the time the album’s finest tracks, “Lost…” and “…In The Trama,” roll around, the listener will be enveloped in the relaxing atmosphere of the tranquility that EN DECLIN creates. The group’s choice to stay away from heavier or faster parts where other bands may opt to is an admirable trait. Listeners looking for a calm, relaxing piece of progressive Italian music may find their escape in "Trama".
