You have to hand it to Crusher Records over the years, they have an ear for talent as far as finding bands that revert to the true ways of rock and roll, hearkening the psychedelic era of rock where the “anything goes” attitude was a free for all, yet those who chose to simply rock out, just plain rocked. The latest release from the vinyl aficionado label, is the Bliss EP from Sweden’s Blues Pills – it offers up a duel guitar attack to thicken the crunch of their heavy-psych, in front of a Sabbath-esque rhythmic punch from the bass & drums topped off with the soul power vocals of Elin Larson (a cross between Aretha Franklin & Janis Joplin), being rock and roll at it’s finest from the quintet. The four songs here include the thickened grooves of “Astralplane” & Devil Man,” the heavy blues mindset on the title track (sung in Swedish), as well as a laid back tune called “Little Sun,” a lot of riffage is crammed into these four tracks, all ala-Nebula, Horisont, & Spiders.
