The fall 2012 finds, the brainchild of Norway’s very own, Bjeima returning with yet another obscure and highly nightmare-ish piece of art in the name of Yurei’s ‘Night Vision’. Of course this come as no surprise as his talents are evidently represented in his other musical works as well (Virus, Alfa Obscura, The Ghost Conspiracy to name a few) with this album being no different. Presenting is a blend of absurd compositions, dark and esoteric which flirt with the likes of art rock, avant-garde, along with some jazz elements here and there (‘Insomniac Bug Hunt’), but maintaing the black metal mindset throughout especially as far as atmosphere and sinister sounding music is concerned. This very fact is particularly spottable in songs like ‘Dali By Night’ and of course the monumental ‘Cranial Echoes’ which is one of this album’s most precious gems. Yurei here plays by his own rules, gathering all previous experiences, all the sleepless nights that one can be tortured with in a twisted, claustrophobic yet melancholic environment in the form of ‘Night Vision’, it all comes to one. Everything is so well thought out, the non-existence of distortion guitars really add to this, dissonant and horrifying rock music. A new, different approach of proggressive with complicated arrangements and vocals which are higlhy resemblant to Arcturus. The tortuous ‘3am Revolt’ is an illustrious example of the characterizations above. All in all, ‘Night Vision’ is a very intriguing release, an album that circulates through the darkest in deepest regions of one’s mind, evacuating everything but the music itself. It’s an album that definitely needs it’s time to grow on the listener but once it does, each song just gets better and better. An ambiguous release that is certainly willing to please open-minded listeners, in and across the metal borders. Review by "Lefteris.K" (http://subexistance.com).
