'Unbreakable' is the debut album from UK hard rockers Escape, a band who's roots are firmly planted in the classic Hard Rock sound with a touch of AOR keyboards thrown in and this is brought to the forefront with this release. The band of Steve K (vocals), Vince O’Regan (guitars) Andy Mills (bass) Andy Pierce (drums) and last but by no means least Roland Moog! (really?) (keyboards), who bring a ray of hope to the British scene. The album opens up with ‘Still Alive’ and from the off you can feel that classic British Hard Rock sound mixed with a haunting AOR keyboard, with K’s vocals adding that Terry Brock feel to the proceedings. Thing continue in a similar vein with ‘Unbreakable’, again classic riffs interwoven with stirring keyboards, before the very melodic feel of ‘Best of Me’. This song has a very 80’s feel about it, with it's big chorus and soaring guitars. It’s back to the harder side of rock with ‘Living On The Wrongside’. The melodic train keeps running with ‘Read Between The Lines’, another song with it's heart firmly in the 80’s and it's head in the now, before the tempo is brought down with the excellent ballad ‘New Horizon’. This is just a short reprise as the melodic hard rocking come back with a vengeance with ‘Night To Remember’, with O’Regan laying down some superb guitars and another favourite ‘Moment In Time’, which starts off with great keyboard intro before the guitars of O’Regan take it up another notch. The band shift it up another gear with ‘Bring You Down’ before the lick spewn splendour of the bluesy rocker ‘Rescue Me’. The album closes with a big slice of hard rock in ‘Heartbreak City’, again classic British hard rock. In a world where European bands dominate the genre, it's nice to hear some home grown British bands still flying the flag of this genre. Another great white hope for the UK rock scene just when we need it most. Review by "Mayfair Mall" (www.themayfairmallzine.com/).
