. Turzi Électronique Expérience .*

Album: Education (as T.E.E.) (2011)
Genre: Prog Electronic (Space Rock/Exp./Techno)  /  France

The band is comprised of the “leader” Romain Turzi on synthesizers, Sky Over on drums, Hard Rock Gunter on guitar, Judah Warsky on keyboards and Arthur Rambo on bass.  As the band’s bio claims, they were “pulled together by Romain through various random encounters in record stores and catechism class.” The first three songs, “Connaissance,” “Croyance” and “Constance” make up a mini, dark movement on the LP, as they are cut from the same moody electronic fabric. T.E.E. perform a 180 on “Enfance,” which has a lighter touch with softer, more human vocals, and synth washes occupying the background, while the foreground is lit with bouncing synths. There is still a darkness to “Enfance,” but it is a sublime sort of darkness. And one is struck with the thought that no one is writing music quite like this at the moment. “Deviance” begins with some Jean Michel Jarre arpeggios before its arena rock beat and vocal samples occupy a field of sound similar to Daft Punk’s moodier work on “Tron.” T.E.E. again brings the light with “Errance,” which has some of the best synthesizer work of 2011. It is playful, melancholy and quite capable of inducing an absurdly happy trance, especially if the listener happens to be in motion, not stationary. It’s all retro on “Descendance,” layered with Kraftwerkian synth arpeggios that pulsate like heartbeats. T.E.E. close the album with “En France,” which conjures images of a Miami Vice episode on the French Riviera (no small task). This is an interesting turn for T.E.E., since few if any bands at all currently occupy this particular sonic real estate. “Education” has the unique ability to transport the listener back in time to the origins of techno music, and then forward by way of visions of science fiction soundtracks.
