*. Wild Pack Of Canaries .*

Album: Agua Amarga (2013)
Genre: Prog Rock (Art Rock/Exp./Eclectic/Pop/Psych)  /  USA

This psychedelic beach pop quintet have a very colorful way of constructing indie pop tracks, they utilize discord, a free-spirited jazz approach, and some really odd note choices. The album has a Tera Melos kind of feel, like cartwheeling down a busy interstate, yet all of the latter style is piled on top of each other, compressed into one musical concept. It is true experimental concepted pop, relating to bands like Birthgiving Toad and a demolition of a more no-wave sound occurs. At the same time, we meet the alter egos of the band who have a straight-up, singer/songwriter, minimalistic radio presence. The band has a vast grasp on limitation and its nonexistence, and it makes for a really strange combination, Broken Social Scene on 1100 micro hits of lsd25. They approach soundsculpting in an unorthodox manner, and they have a killer serenade his bounded victim to sleep. The melting punk tantrums have a bluesy and youthful Tim Armstrong kind of quiet heroin scream that takes over the album into an anthem-like realm; leaving the art rock vibe behind them. The pedal play of this band is really its own, and has no traces of links anywhere. Vazio features an integration of math-rock, which solidifies the relation to Tera Melos and makes it actuality. My favorite song has to be Song For The Johns. Having so many influences, its best that you just press play and let yourself bask in the confusion.
