*. Congreso .*

Album: Con Los Ojos En La Calle (2010)
Genre: Prog Rock (Contemporary Folk/World Music/Jazz)  /  Chile

Finally, another Congreso album! It took the band a long time to get over the tragic loss of keyboarded Jaime Vivanco in 2003. Although the band stuck around for live presentations (and the release of the mediocre live album "Congreso de la exportacion"), no fresh material seemed to come to Sergio "Tilo" Gonsalez, the fantastic drummer and mastermind behind Congreso. When I first headr that a new studio album was in the pipeline, late last year, I was stoked! Yet it took another half year, apparently a result of issues with Congreso's label. But now it's out and expectations were high. Was it possible to top the excellent "LA LOCA SIN ZAPATOS", an album as close to perfection as Sting's "Dream of the Blue Turtles". Well, "Con los ojos en la calle" is no "Loca sin zapatos". It is very jazzy, less folky (although "Mapocho" features Congreso's trademark subtle ethno sounds). After I first listened to the album I wasn't sure. After the second listen I really liked "Mapocho", the totally uplifting "Mundo al reves" and the gentle "Venus en bicicleta". And with every following listen appreciation for each and every moment grew. It is one of those albums that grows on you - once you have found your way into it, it will never let you go. A brilliant follow-up to "Loca sin zapatos". Highly recommended to anyone with a taste for pop-infused jazz with a hint of proggressive rock. Review by "Monsieur Le Fevre" (www.amazon.com).
